The Mission

The Los Barrios dog pound must relocate — urgently.

  • The pound sits on a floodplain.

  • The Palmones river rises and floods the site.

  • As storms get worse, the dogs are at greater risk.

  • Volunteers are forced to evacuate more than 300 dogs.

The current site is no longer safe.

The Problem

The Solution

A construction plan of the new pound, with various areas including parking, pools, kennels, patios, and green spaces.
  • To date, around €250,000 has been raised.

  • With these funds the volunteers have secured 3 hectares of land close to Los Barrios but on higher ground.

  • The site has been cleared and fenced — but they need much more funding to begin construction.

  • An additional €900,000 is required to take the pound from a muddy field into a purpose-built animal shelter.

The New Location

An aerial map shows an area with a designated plot labeled 'New Pound' in yellow. Surrounding terrain includes fields, forests, and urban development, with a river flowing through the lower part of the map.

The solution is a new, purpose-built shelter.

  • The volunteers have secured land away from the flood risk.

  • Planning approval is in place.

  • Dry, secure kennels — with safe exercise areas.

  • Proper space for care, recovery and adoption.

  • The pound can operate safely all year round, without the constant threat of flooding.

Now they need the funding to build it.
